Research Focus:

We ask how beneficial bacteria are reproducibly acquired from the environment by animal hosts, focusing on the interaction between Hawaiian bobtail squid and luminescent Vibrio fischeri bacteria. We combine bacterial genetics, imaging, and comparative genomics to study this symbiosis.
